Brisk Market oh
National Double
By Tasman
Interest in the Grand National double at Flemington on
July 5 and 12 increased yesterday when a number of horses,
previously neglected in the betting, had substantial support.
Horses hacked included
Iron Monarch, Druid, Grand
Ridge. Japaddy and French
Pact, for the hurdle, and
Granya, Hard Doer and Ne-
langie in the steeplechase.
The commissions were
not inspired and. there
were no big amounts in
volved, but generally te
business was brisk.
Iron Monarch and Druid
were coupled with Finen-
tigue, Bfefty Loon and
Granya for (in aggregate of
between £4000 and £5000
in each case.
Japaddy was bracketed
with Hard Doer for £3000
and French Pact-Nelangie
for £3000.
Demand for the, favorites
continued, with By the Way
well ahead of Count David
and Tiercel for hurdle fa
voritism.
Popular Double
Amongst the doubles were
By the Way-Bronze Laddie
(£3000), Tiercel - Bronze
Laddie (£3500) and Tiercel-
Hefty Loon (£3000). .
Most popular combina
tion. By the Way-Finen-
tigue, had a limited de
mand because of the short
price.
Finentigue is not to run in
the Wanda Steeplechase at
Caulfleld on Saturday.
L. Meenan. is to ride Ne-
langie in the Wanda Stee
plechase on Saturday and
also in the Grand National.
It will be Nelangie's first
effort over the fences: since
he fell hi the Great Eastern
Steeplechase at Oakbank,
but he has. been sharpened
up. by runs on the flat.
Granya will be on trial,
and any improvement on his
third at Moonee Valley to
Finentigue, and second to
that' horse at Caulfleld, will
gain him further support for
the National.
