"Big Day " for Royal
Children in Malta
VALETTA, May 4 ( A.A.P.) — Today is a " big day" for the
Royal children, who are to be allowed ashore for a personal
.welcome by the people of Malta.
Last week the Malt-

Queen's wish that the
children be left as
much to themselves as
possible.,'
But today Prince
Charles and Princess
Anne are scheduled to
land jahead of the Royal

parade.
At the parade the
Queen is to review 1500
men and women march
ing to band music in one
of the most colorful cere
monies of the -Malta
tour. -
A feature of this par
ade will be the firing of
the "feu de joie" (joyful
fusillade), in which each
man fires a blank round
a fraction of ' a second
after the man next, to
him.
The Royal children
watched from an hotel
balcony when the
Queen and Duke took-
the salute at the par
ade.
After the parade the
Queen and the Duke of
Edinburgh are due to visit
the palace of the metro
politan archbishop of
Malta at Mdina, the is
land's former capital, and
will later open Mater Ad-
mirabilis (Mother Most
Admirable) training col
lege at Tal Virtu.
The Queen wore a la
vender coat and frock, of
corded silk with a small
feather-trimmed hat.
The Duke wore the uni
form of an Admiral of the
Fleet.
The Queen and Duke
later lunched at Ad
miralty House with the
Mountbattens.
They will attend a State
ball, in the Governor's
palace,. Valetta; -tonight.
