Delayed

Australia sent so much food
to Britain fnr Christmas
through the express gift parcel
scheme that many English
people are only now receiving
their Christmas presents.
. Orders for 400.000 parcels
within . a iSonth "completely
overwhelmed'' food supplies
sent to England for packing.
Dock strikes in Australia
further delayed the scheme.
But the Orion has now ar
rived with enough -food for
100,000 parcels and a stall of
100 girls is packing thousands
of parcels daily at a Middle
sex depot.
It Is expected that enough
food will have been received by
the end of February to make
up. arrears.
" One and a quarter million
parcels have been packed since
the- scheme began in Decem
ber, 1947.
