ALBURY
Mr. Samuol Frederick Mudge died suddenly
on Thursday at his property at Lavlngloa.
Ho was 73 yoars of age, and was one of ttj
best-known Identities In the Albury district.
From the inception of local Government bodies
In 1900, until his rotlremcnt In April of last
year, Mr. Mudgo had been clerk to the -Hume
shlro council. He was considered ono of the
best authorities on Local Government matter
In the State.
Despite adverno seasonal conditions and n
rainfall of less than hnlf the yearly average,
the crop3 entered In Albury Show Society
growing crop competition this year
were of a high standard. Tho
competition resulted in a tie for
first place between A. C. Sevcrln and Son.
Brocklesby, with a crop of Bobln, estimated
to yield 13 bags to the acre, and G. W. Moil
and 8on, Gorogery, Ford and Dundee, esti
mated yield 40 bushels to acre. Each wan
awarded 144 points. MoU and Son also gained
third pi aco with a second putry of Bena wheat,
being awarded 140 points.
Albury council is to approach tho Educa
tion and Police departments to secure proper
ties under their control, so that the establish
ment of a civic square, estimated to cost
£40,000, can be considered. The square would
ombraco the mechanics' institute, Dean-square,
Technical College and police buildings.
JUNEE
Eight persons escapod serious injury wh«n
cars driven by J. McCarthy and W. Herbert
mot in a head-on collision on the Junee-
Gundngal road.
A fire broke out in the southern railway con
trol room, ot the Juneo station, but was
quickly put out.
COLERA1NE. — Special trains have been
busily engaged In transporting stock to and
from Coleralne during the last few weeks.
Tho wool season gives every indication of
record. Tho number of bales despatched from
tho Coleralne railway station so far totalled
5000.
Farmers are i>ow culling grass hay, and
in some instances tho pastures aro excellent.
