ENGINE DERAILED AT ELTHAM.
An official report was made to the Rail
way department yesterday concerning a de
railment at Eltham on Thursday evening.
The engine of the 5.54 p.m. passenger train
left the tracks at Eltham about 6.28 p.m.
while crossing at the points past the 6
p.m. "up" train. The derailed engine was
planed on the line again at 6.50 p.m. Both
trains were delayed about 20 minutes. It
was reported that the points in question
were out of order on the previous day,
nving to a piece of iron becoming lodged
between the point blade and the rails. The
point lock and lever were strained, and the
blade was prevented from falling back
closely against the rail. A departmental
inquiry was ordered.
