FEW SETTLE RS.
FARM HANDS ARRIVING
The steamer Sophocles, bringing a party
of 140 new settlers to Victoria, is now ex
pected to reach Port Melbourne this morn
ing, a day earlier than previously ex
pected. The Bcnalla, with 230 oflieial pas-
sengers for Victoria, will probably arrive
on Thursday morning. Prom these two
steamers 120 men will be available lor
fanning and other country work. The
Immigration Bureau expeeta to find en
gagements for the newcomers during tin-
week, and ill order to facilitate arrauge-
ments in this direction it will appreciate
prompt replies to inquiries which have
been sent during the Inst few days to
various branches of the "cw Settlers
League, agricultural societies and brunches
of the Farmers/ Union, as well as to in
dividual employers.
Since Monday morning 55 men who dis
embarked from the Omar hnve been en-
ga-rd, and will proceed to their country
employment within' the next day or two.
