BALLARAT CITY FIRE BRIGADE.
The monthly meeting of the brigade was
held on Tuesday evening last; Captain
Palmer in the chair. Correspondence.—
From secretary Country Fire Brigades’
Board, containing an extract from the
minutes of the hoard's meeting with refer
ence to Chief-officer Judd’s’charges against
the brigade of having an iinproper defi
ciency of 2000 feet of hose, and of having
obtained £B5 from the bosrd, giving as
security an unsafe and unworkable steam
engine. Extract, from board’s minutes: —
“ 1. It was resolved—‘That this board is
perfectly satisfied that the return showing
quantity of hose on hand, supplied hy the
secretary of- the Ballarat City Fire Brigade
in 1891, was quite correct, and regret that
the misunderstanding regarding supposed
deficiency arose through the officers of the
brigade not having shown all this hose to
the chief officer during his recent inspec
tion; and, further, that they did not inform
him on that occasion that 700 feet of hose
had been given by the City brigade to the
S°bastopol Fire Brigade since said return
had been supplied to the board.’ 2. It wan
also resolved— ‘ That the paragraph of Chief
officer Judd’s report referring to the steam
fire engine being in an unsafe and-unwork
able condition, be struck out;’” —Received.
From same, intimating that the station
keeper would be allowed a fortnight leave,

own'expense a suitable substitute.
From same, stating that the chief officer was
empowered to act on his own discretion in
reference to the erection of a polo for drying
hose —Received. From same, stating that
tlie accunt of £l5 15 • fid for repairs to the
steam fire engine had been passed for pay
ment, and would be included in the next
pay-sheet.—Received. From name, intimat
ing that the chief officer would bo in Bal
larat on the 6th inst. in reference to placing
anew boiler in the steam engine, and re
questing officers to meet him at the brigade
station,—Received. From same, intimating
that the alterations to the firebell aud to the
fire alarm service requisitioned for had been
"ordered to be executed.—Received. From
W. Mason, requesting three months’ leave
of absence in consequence of a visit to South
Australia.—Granted. Mr Walter Marsh
was elected apparatus officer, and Mr R. A.
Mann a member of the finance committee.
It was decided to have a scratch fours com
petition. The meeting then adjourned.
