FARM SETTLEMENT OF MINERAL
LAND.
—Age.
A special court was held by the warden at
Bendigo on Monday afternoon to consider
the advisability of throwing open for selec
tion in small blocks about 600 acres of old
diggingß in various portions of the district;
At a previous sitting delegates from the City
Council appeared to oppose the application,
but on the Government surveyor recommend
ing that the difficulty might be got over by
reserving 100 chains width along known lines
of reef, the City Council abandoned its oppo
sition. At to-day's sitting Mr E. J. Dunn,
Government geologist, suggested that a
smaller width would be sufficient. Even
tually, after a conference betwe«-n the various
parties, interested, it was agreed that the
.warden should recommend that each appli
cation should be referred to a board consist
ing of representfttivee of the Bendigo, Eagle
hawk, Huntly, Msrong, ami Strathfi-ldsaye
ahire Councils, the Miners’ Association, and
the Mining Board, with the warden ss
chairman, each to be dealt with on its merits.
Bower being taken to conserve sufficient
ground for mining purposes. The warden
pointed out that since the last court it was
discovered that the law did not apply to
cities or towns, so that the area to be dealt
with would be reduced.-
