REVENUE RETURNS.
A considerable decrease is (says the Ape)
apparent in the revenue of the Victorian
Customs Department for the month of
August, as compared with the same month
of last year. The amount collected during
the month was £127,806, out of which
£11,286 was paid away as drawback" and
refunds, leaving a net revenue of £115,980.
this given a decrease of £54,694 on August,
1891, which is accounted for by the general
depression of trade.
The revenue of New South Wales for the
month of August, Was £782,342, as com
pared with £708,691 for August in the pre
vious year—an increase of £73.631. Cus
toms showed an increase «f £45,976, land
revenue an increase of £12.805; stamps, in
crease £3335. The railways showed a de
crease of £76.
' The Tasmanian revenue .for the month
was £58,840, being a decrease of £13,347 on
the previous August. There was a decrease
£46,216 for the first eight months of the pre
sent year. The principal falling off is in the
Customs receipts.
