Two Lost in Second
Navy Firefly Crash
Two airmen lost their lives when an
R.A.N. Firefly crashed into the sea off
Jervis Bay on Friday night. It was the
second Firefly lost in the area within four
days.
Members of the crew
were:—
Sub-lieutenant (P.) D. P. E.
Small, of Canley Vale,
New South Wales.
Observer (1) J. G. Sharpe,
whose next of kin's ad-
dress is Consett, South
Durham, England.
They were engaged on a
night-flying exercise from
the naval air station,
Nowra.
Reports from other air-
craft indicated that the
Firefly hit the sea 16
miles from Point Perpen-
dicular, at the entrance
of Jervis Bay.
A search began imme-
diately and continued
through the night.
All night-flying exercises
in Fireflies have been can-
celled pending investiga-
tions into the causes of the
losses.
