"Night Shifts
May: Operate
A warning that some Jndus-
tries might have - to change
their- productipn to night shift
because of the power, shortage
was given to - the Trades Hall
Council last night by the coun
cil assistant secretary . (Mr.
M. C. Jordan).
Mr. Jordan was . submitting
a report to the council on the
power position. .
He said the T.H.C. executive
had discussed the problem
and adjourned to confer with
the Government, the / State
Electricity Commission and
employers.
It was hoped- that the con
ference wtfuld.be- held -early,
next week and that a full re
port and recommendation
would be placed . before the
next, meeting of. the T.H.C.
Mr. Jordan said it had . been
pointed out to the executive
that the best period for the
transfer of power load was be
tween 11 p.m. and 7 a.mi -
He was not advocating -night
shift,- but: the position was now
so desperate that - it: may / be
necessary to look -to night' shift
to conserve' power for indus-
