Meanwhile, a request lias been
sent to the Federal executive of
the R.S.L. directing it to ask
Stale branches not to implement
the recent decision lo wlc(en the
eligibility of membership until
the special general meeting of
congress has been held.
Followuig the unanimous reso
lution by representatives of 8!)
State-wide sub-branches, the
Victorian executive of Lhe league
yesterday forwarded a letter ask
ing that the Federal president 01
Australia call a special meeting
ol i congress to reconsider the de
cision. It asked that the meeting
be held toward the end of Janu
ary, so that the "reaction of sub-
branches and members to the re-
cent decision 'Will be conveyed to
representative head quarters."
Under rule 18 of the league's
, constitution, the president is en
titled to call a special meeting at
any time, for any purpose, pro
viding he has the consent of at
least three State branch presi
dents-.
Last Friday when Federal con
gress passed the new rule by
which men who had volunteered
and who had seen six months'
service within Australia were al
lowed to join the R.S.L., the vot
ing was nine in favor and four
against. Victorian and South
Australian delegates were against
the alteration.
However, with the secession of
many sub-branches. New South
Wales members have indicated
their widespread hostility to the
new rule, and it is felt In official
circles that N.S.W. will now side
with Victoria and South Australia
in asking for a special meeting
of congress. '
