CHANGE OF PLANS.
Rosenbloom to Meet Kelly.
By Chip.
As a result of the announcement In "The
Age" or yesterday that Max Rosenbloom.
of America, the ex-world cruiser-weight box
ing champion, had decided to return to the
United States, Mr. R. Lean, of Stadiums Ltd.,
Immediately telephoned him nt Sydney yes
terday, and offered a big guarantee to bring
hfm to Melbourne to fight Leo Kelly, the
American hard-hitting negro, who stopped
Ambrose Palmer. Rosenbloom accepted, and
the contest will take place at the official
reopening ot the big West Melbourne Stadium
on 35th August.
A few weeks ago Rosenbloom defeated Kelly
on points, hut was then over a stono heavier
than his rival. He said after the match that
Kelly was the hardest puncher he had yet met,
nnd was certain to defeat John Henry Lewis
for the world crulser-wetght title on his return
to America. Tho contest hero will be fifteen
three-minute rounds, and should result In a
great struggle, as in the last match Kelly was
short of a gallop, and had not fought since
the Palmer contest, when he received a stray
piece of metal tn his eye and was ordered
by specialists to refrain from boxtng for a
year.
The West Melbourne stadium will then be
used on Saturday nights for regular weekly
contests, and second fight will probably be
between Tom Jones, the American negro
middle weight, nnd Jack Wilson (Victoria), if
wuson wins that contest he will be then
opposed to Fred Hennebcrry, the Australian
middle-weight champion, also at West Mel
bourne.
