MILITIA APPEAL.
Recruits Coming Forward.
Although there has not been a rush
of recruits in answer to the Defence de
partment's appeal for another 8000 men
to Join the militia forces, a steady in
quiry is being made dally regarding con
ditions. It is anticipated that within the
next week or two the number of ap
plicants will steadily increase, and the
required number of recruits will present
themselves.
Training in the militia is to be made
more attractive, so that recruits will join
up. These improvements include in
creased rates of pay and the provision
of sporting and athletics in the routine.
Commissions can be obtained only by
members serving in the ranks. Tho way
Is therefore open to any recruit by study,
diligence and proficiency to rise to the
highest position in the Australian array.
