The scrutiny of the votes lor the Legislative
Council "and. Assembly at to-day's
general election will be conducted with the
same celerity which two years ago was made
possible by the adoption of counting: centres
as against the former practice of conveying
every bos to the central polling place. This
applies to every district except Flinders,
where special arrangements have been
made for the dispatch of the various boxes
lo Port Augusta. Jn the other 11 districts
more than 60 counting centres have been
provided. As soon as one box is finished
tbe numbers will be forwarded to the chiat
counting place, whence the returning officer
will telegraph them' direct to the Adelaide
press. Attention will first be devoted to
the Assembly- papers; and, as the scrutineers
will settle down to their wort sbortly
after the closing of the poll at 7 o'clock,
figures should be available gefore 8 o'clock.
Tlie Register has always been noted for
the promptness and accuracy and clearness
with which election results" are posted i(;r
the information of the public. On this
occasion careful arrangements have been
made to ensure the most rapid transmission
of the figures to Tlie Register Office, where
tbev- will be presented to the public equally
quiddy, and in the most acceptable
form. The specially designed revolving
boards, which proved BO
successful at the last election, are in readiness
for this evening, and the figures upon
them wiU be plainly visible to the thousands
oTpeopie who will gather in Grenfell
street. This system of posting conduces to
the utmost celerity, besides possessing the
important advantage of presenting a continuous
show of figures for every district in
the State. The whole of tbe work is performed
at the rear of -foe boards, and spectators
wiH thus be afforded an uninterrupted
view throughout. The finest electrical
appliances will be employed to illuminate
tiie boards, and from their prominent
position above the office balcony the
bold letters and figures will minister to the
interest.. By midnight the Adelaide and
Port Adelaicle districts should be almost
completed, and most of tire coun.try_ districts
should give a fair indication of the
sueoessful candidates. Late trains and
cars will be run, and the country telegraph
offices will be open tiD midnight. Tt was
reported in tihe country on Friday that
arrangements had been made in most districts
ro continue tlie scrutiny on Sunday
morning. The Rernrnin? Officcr of the
State (Mr. C. L- 'MacbewsJ.when communicated
with, stated that, he had issued instruction
that counting should cease at midnight
on Saturday,, and be resumed on
Monday.
