EVENTS
Guard of Honor of
Debutantes
Roses scattered among greenery de
corated the facade of the balcony and
light from the stage cast a glow of
rose color on to the dance floor, when
citizens of Collingwood entertained the
mayor, Cr. W. J. Towers, and Mrs.
Towers, at a ball in the Collingwood
town hall last night.
White-gowned debutantes and their
partners formed a guard of honor for
the official party. With the mnyor
and mayoress were the chairman of
the citizens' committee, Mr. Tunne-
cliilc, M.L.A., and Mrs. Tunnccllffe;
the town clerk of .Collingwood, Mr. N.
D. Graham, and Mrs. Graham; Mr.
G. J. Brown, who acted as secretary,
and Mrs. Brown; Mr. and Mrs. J. W.
Galbally, Dr. and Mrs. F. H. James.

The mayoress's graceful burgundy
georgette gown was matched by the
petals of the daphne that, with vio
lets, made her bouquet; Mrs. Tunne-
cliffc wore a swinging cape of bright
Paisley material with her black vel
vet gown, and her mbouquet was of
red gladioli, and Mrs. Graham's pink
chifTon gown was made with a shirred
bodice. Her bouquet was of carna
tions and violets.
On behalf of the citizens Mr. Tunne-
clifTe presented a wallet of notes to
(he mayor. The debutantes gave the
mayoress a photograph and their part
ners presented her with a hand bag.
Red,White&Blue
at Camberwell
The mayor of Camberwell (Cr. Au-
' gust) and Mrs. August were the guests
of about 450 citizens of Camberwell
at a ball held in their honor last night
at Camberwell town hall.
They were received by the chair
man of the ball committee (Mr. W.
Creaton) and Mrs. Creaton, the hon
orary secretary (Mr. R. M. C. Aitchi-
son) and Mrs. Aitchison, and the hon
orary treasurer (Mr. T. J. Priestley).
A lovely bouquet of daffodils, Duchess
of York pansles and orchids was pre
sented to the mayoress, who wore a
gown of pale lime green figured satin
with draped bodice, and a long, flared
coat of moss green angora embroi-
1 dored at the waist with gold sequins.
Mrs. Creaton, who wore a black lace
, frock with a three-quarter length
, black velvet coat, was presented with
a bouquet of Christmas roses and
thryptomene, while Mrs. Aitchison,
whose bouquet was of red carnations
and daphne, wore a frock of pale blue
satin with a floral design in fuchsia
shades. Mrs. Priestley's frock was of
parchment satin, worn with a marmot
cape.
Proceeds of the ball, after expenses
have been met, will, at the particular
I wish of the mayor and mayoress, be di
vided equally between Camberwell
f branches of the Red Cross and the
Australian Comforts Fund,
f Decorations were carried out in an
: attractive scheme of red, white and
blue, and the Union Jack and Austra-
1 lian flag wore given pride of place
f above the stage, which was arranged
; as a drawingroom in a setting of palms,
I: ferns and primulas.
