GEELOING
Speaking , in the mayor's room yes
terday, Cr. S. E. Orchard protested
against the action of military police
taking charge of traffic arrangements
on Friday, on the occasion of -the
artillery parade. He said the civil
police were quite aoie to carry out
those duties.
At yesterday's meeting of Geelong
city council, the members who were
re-elected at the recent municipal
elections were formally introduced and
welcomed. In the mayor's room after
the" meeting, Cr. J. 0. Young proposed
the health of the new mayor (Cr. R.
C. Thear) and expressed the good
wishes for a successful term on behalf
of the other members of the council.
Public, secondary, primary and State
schools of Geelong will terminate their
scholastic work this week for the
annual term holidays. During the
vacation, cadets from Geelong Col
lege will attend a special military
camp at Frankston.
Robert Tregenzo, 25 years, of Bond-
street, Chilwell, was admitted to Gee
long Hospital yesterday with injuries
sustained when he was dragged along
the ground after falling put of a
baker's cart he was driving in Corlo-
street. He received severe lacera
tions.
Eight new trailer-type ' mobile fire
pumps for A.R.P. purposes, were tested
at the Barwon River yesterday.
Recently Imported from England, these
machines nave been assembled In
Geelong.
A GOOD RECORD
More than 300 men are employed by
Geelong Electricity Supply, and not
withstanding the fact that many are
over military age, and a considerable
proportion are in reserved occupations,
18 have enlisted for service overseas.
Three others are on the staff of the
Australian Instructional Corps for
home service, one is in the Garrison
Battalion, and two are In the militia.
As extensions and capital works have
decreased considerably. It has not been
necessary to fill all the positions.
