Thursday.
(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)
At a meeting held on Monday evening [?],
arrangements were completed to organise [?]
public brass band here. It was decided to
immediately purchase instruments to the
value of £6O, and to engage Mr Scatffe, of
Ballarat, as instructor. Private subscrip
tion books were issued, and it is intended to
raise as much money towards the cost of the
instruments as possible by this means, and
the balance by Christy Minstrel entertain
ments, for which purpose a local company U
being formed.
Mr P. Fraser, son of Mr W. Fraser,
farmer, of this district, has been _con fined to
his bed since S >tu>d-iy la«t, suS-rir g fros
an attack of pleurisy of a very serious
nature. Dr Salter is attending the sufferer,
whose condition, I am pleased to state, bas
slightly improved to day. .
Mr J. P. Spiers, J.P., member of the Bal-
laratshire Council, and storekeeper of this
township, was today married to Miss Jessie
Stewart, eldest daughter of Mr D. Stewart,
an old and respected resident of this district.
The marriage ceremony was performed by
the Rev. R. Hamilton, Presbyterian minis-
ter, iu tile presence of the near relation, o*
bride and bridegroom only, at the tvaiueni
of the former’s parents. Miss Hast ! coai l
of the bride) was the bridesmaid, and Mr J.
Stewart (brother) the groomsman,
newly married couple left by the f te ® £’
train for the Western district on their
ding tour. The bridegroom is the cdestJM;
of Mr R. H. Spiers, the well-known hrme.
