APPOINTMENT OF MR. H.
ROBERTSON.
Yesterday the ofHcial announcement
Tens made at the V.R.C. offices by Mr.
H. Byron More that Mr. Harold
Robertson had been selected for the posi
tion of judge at Flcmington and Caul-
field, in succession to the Into Mr. N.
vvuson. The appointment, Mr. Moore
stated, iras unanimous as between the
two clubs, which arc paying £t)00 per an
num as the salary for this important
position, in connection with which hun
dreds of thou.sahds of pounds are in
volved on occasions, such as in connec
tion with the Caulficid nnd Melbourne
Cups. Newmarket Haudlcnp nnd other
big races. Mr. Robertson is not known
to the great mnjoi ity of racing wen, but
Mr. Moore stated yesterday that he was
one of the best of Bporta," and his in-
a ns beyond question. According
to Mr, Moore, the new judge is "a little
over forty years of age," but his ap
pearance suggests he may be a triile
older. Mr. Robertson's father, the late
Air, A. W. Robertson, gvns for many
years n member of the V.R.C, committee,
and was the owner rf a number of raee-
horses. He was also i. director of the well-
known lirm of Messrs. Coldsbrough,
iuoit and Co. . For many years Mr.
Robertson has, it is undeistood, buun in
terested in the Mount Morgan M ining
Go., and at present he ia said to have
pastoral interests in Queensland. Mr.
Robertson went to England nfter the
outbreak of war, nud served with the
British forces. Mr. Robertson's father
was a member of the firm of Messrs.
Robertson and Wagner, the original pro
prietors of Cobb and Co.'s coaches. Mr.
. Robertson will enter upon bis new duties
at Caulfield on 20th April.
