BALLARAT
Leslie Bathman, 22, farm laborer,
of Mollongghlp, was charged in Bal
larat city court on Friday, with hav
ing forged the signature of N. W.
Quick, a former, employer, to .a
cheque for £14 8/. He pleaded guilty,
arid was committed' for. trial at Balla-
rat Supreme Court on -August 7. .
Ballarat Patriotic Fund' Committee
has received £770 as a. result oi to
recent production of The O'Brien Girl
by the Ballarat Theatrical and Musi
cal Comedy Co.
The co-operation . of Ballarnt City
Council will be sought by BallarAt
pie-school Welfare council in an
effort' to obtain financial aid from

Instructors' certificates.
A largely attended meeting of- re
presentatives of public bodies last
night decided that Bendlgo will sup
port a candidate in the Miss Aus
tralia for the Australian Comforts
Fund.
GEELONG
In reply to questions by Mr. M,
Steedman. P.M., In the city court on
Friday, First Constable Fraser esald
that on two motor vehicles that he
stopped near Lara on March 3 were
fourteen horses which were similar
to racehorses. Charles T. Truscott,
Faeknham East, was charged with
having, as the owner of commercial
goods vehicles, permitted the vehi
cles to operate otherwise than In
accordance with the terms of a
Transport Board licence, which sti
pulated a radius of 20 miles from
Pakenham East. Truscott was fined
£10 on the first charge, and £5 on
the second charge.

proaching the;North'Geelong station
on Friday afternoon James
McKewan, aged three years, Buck-
ley-street, Footscray, fell from an
open doorway on to the permanent
way, hut free of -the rails. He was
admitted to the Geelong Hospital for
