MARKETING OF EGGS.
Suggestion from London.
Consideration of a suggestion made by
the London Egg Exchnngc that Austra
lian exporters ol eggs should be asked
to put up a bond as n guarantee of
quality, was given at a meeting of the
Victorian Licensed Egg Packers and Ex
porters' Association. A letter 1ms been
sent to tho London exchange, stating
that members of tho Victorian associa
tion are willing to furnish tho required
bond, providing London buyers make all
their purchases through the associa
tion.
Mr. K. L. Ballanlync, a Melbourne
merchant, who recently visited London
to investigate the marketing of Austra
lian eggs, furnished a report to the asso
ciation. Tho report showed that com
plaints concerning the quality of Austra
lian eggs were less serious than had been
made to appear, and were confined to the
produce received from only two or three
packers. I11 several cases lie had lnve-,1-
gated he found that complaint had been
mode by c.l.f. buyers, who, through the
weakness of the London market, had
eool-storcd their eggs for four or five
wciks, during which period quality had
deteriorated.
Mr. A. H. Mace was elected chairman
und Mr. P. N. Flygcr honorary secretary
of the association for - tho 1935-36 sca-
bon.
