THE RAIN AND THE CROPS
LEARMONTH, Monday.
(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)
A light constant rain fell here an Saturday
night last for several hours, and there was a
shower yesterday. To-day the weather be
came boisterous, with a thunderstorm, accom
panted by very largo hailstones, and a heavy
downpour was expected So far these antioi
potions have not been realised Tho showers
of ram have cleared the atmosphere to an ap
preciable degree, and will in a slight measure
benefit growing crops, although tho fall has
not been sufficient to do much in this way.
Rain at the present time would be of some ad
vantage to the pea crops, and tho potatoes
would bo greatly benefited, as also the late
cereal crops Hay cutting is now being pro
ceeded with all over the district, and fair
returns are being obtained on most of the
farms,

During Saturday night there was a steady
fall of rain Tho atmosphere to-day is very
muggy, and there has been a hlt'e tain. It is
pleasing to learn from Newlyn residents that
crops in that locality are already showing the
benefits of Saturday's night's downpour.
