FEDERAL CAPITAL.
Land to be. Acquired.

The Minister for Dome Affairs {Mr.
'Malley) in order to enable the departent
to proceed with the initial work in
onneclion willi the establishment of the
ederal capital, has decided to acquire comulsorily
about 85,000 acres of private land,
he bulk of which lies south of tbe Moonglo
River, between Qucanbeyaji and the

It is not at present possible, according
o the Minister, to give the precise area of
he Federal capital territory, as the actual
osition of the whole of the boundary beween

as not been determined. From the inormation
available, Mr. O'Malley places
he area at 562.681 acres, of which 173,528
s freehold, 149,601 in process of alienation,!
13,662 Crown lands held under lease, and
5,890 unoccupied Crown lands. The popuation
of the territory is 1,714. The liorses
