Mr. Bennett Hopes for Big
Country Party.
PAKENHAM . EAST, Monday.-The
poll was declared by the returning officer,
Mr. J. ,T. Ahern, here this morning. The
final figures were: —
M. BENNETT (C.P.) 6,0(0
R. C. QARLICK (Lab.).. .. ,, 3,75,
Majority for Bennett ., .. ,, 2,377
. In moving votes of thanks to his many
friends and supporters, and' the returning
officer, Mr. Bennett said he felt sure a
Country party man coltld represent this
electorate as well ns anyone else, and he
would do his best to follow in tho foot
steps of Mr. Wnlter, the Country Pnrty
member, who had previously represented
this electorate. He hoped u big Country
party, representing country districts, as
suggested .by the Country party central
council; would he brought about, nnd
assured the electors he would do his
utmost for Gippsland West as a whole.
Mr. R. A. J. James, the Nationalist
candidate, supported the vote of thanks
to the returning officer and Btaff, and
said lie supported a fusion of all the anti-
Labor party.
