Expressions of regret are to be met with in every
direction at the departure of Mr James Robertson,
J.P., from this district. Asa citizen and councillor
he was universally respected—always just and
etra-ghtforward jo bis dealings. open-hearted and
generous whenever a deserving object was mentioned
to him, one whom you don't meet every day.
Asa justice he will be greatly missed, His deci
sions were always tempered with mercy, especially
when he thought there was a hope o( reformation. If
he thought severity would benefit the • Gender as
welt as the general public, justice and severity were
combined. A meeting of the residents was held on
Tuesday for the purpose of taking steps to bid Mr
Robertson a public farewell, prior to his departure to
Gongbool, but be wrote and desired that no public
demonstration should be made. The public think
differently and Intend communicating with him, and
asking him to accept an Invitation at a future date.
