INCITING TO PERJURY.
Mercantile Broker Sent to .Gaol.
SEYMOUR, Tuesday.—1 Tho Court of
General Sessions Was. opened to-day before
Judge Foster. Mr. Sproule 'prosecuted
for the Crown. Louis Freiberg, mercan
tile broker, Barkly-street, St..Kildn, was
charged with at Broadford between 5th
and 10th August last year having incited
James Johnson, of Sugarloaf Creek, to
commit perjury in the hearing of an in
formation against William' McGregor,
charged with conspiracy to defraud John
son of £200. Mr. .Gorman, K.C., nnd Mr.
McArthur defended.
The cn6e was before last Seymour ses
sions, remitted to Melbourne, utid again
ordered for trial at Seymour. It was
allegod that .Freiberg approached Johnson
and asked him to say at' Broadford police
court that he could not identify McGregor,
or that lie was satisfied witli the deal.
Freiberg, giving evidence on his own be
half, denied linvihg made any suggestion
to Johnson that lie should swear falsely.
Tlie jury found accused guilty. He was
sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
