Profits in Rabbit Skins.
ALBURY. — The boom in rabbit skin
prices has produced remarkably .energetic
competition to slaughter tbe pest, and on
every farm and station where rabbits are
to be found the trapping or shooting of
them is engaging attention in prelerence to
any other form of country work. The pro
fits being made are beyond tlie wildest
"dreams of the men inured to hard work,
and to-day rabbit trapping brings in more
money than tbe best" positions held by
educated men. Thousands of pounds are
being paid away weekly for rabbit akins in
this district alone, and even children are
earning, during the school vacatiou, more
money than laboring men formerly got for
their work. Parties of experienced trap
pers have made £20 per week, and it is by
no means exceptional for £2 per day to be
earned. The demand for skins on Euro
pean and American account is now so
strong that it ia believed the price will get
even nighcr later on for the winter coat.
Even at the ruling average price of 7/ to
7/6 per lb., trappers would in the winter
receive nearly double the price for their
labor, owing to the skins weighing nearly
twice as mueli as summer skins. The car:
eases then will also be of account, whereas
at present practically all this valuable food
is left to rot in tlie paddocks.
