A man named Patrick Cailaghan, a
fettW on the railway, has met with a
shocking accident at the Peith station
He was standing on t v c line oa which
a train from Fremarstle was approach
in? the No. 7 platform To avoid this
Cailaghan stepped on to a siding dose
by, along w hich, unnoticed by him,
a rake of waggons was being pushed
by a shunting engine. Cailaghan
was knocked down and run over
His right arm; was severed, hnth legs
left suspended by strips of flesh, his
left thumb was crushed io pulp, and
hi-; left arm badly fractured The
victim of the accident was extricated
from beneath the trucks as soon as
they were brought to a standstill, at the
command of one of the employees who
saw tbat. an accident had happened.
Cailaghan was placed on the railway
ambulance hand cart and taken to the
I hospital. He remained conscious
throughout the journey, .conversing
ratioaally with his hearers throughout.
Cailaghan is about 60 years of age, and
is a married man with a family ot five
children. At present his wife is confined
in bed with illness. One son

workshops, and a daughter in a draper^
establishment in the city.
