WINDHAM RACING CLUE,
Tbo Boring moetlog of tho Wyndbam Eaciitg
' Club Traa bold yeatorday at Worribeo. Tbo
' weather, though cloudy and rather cold, remained
1 fine, and tho special train which loft Melbourne
shortly after noon was woil patronised by a crowd
oz inoroughgoing sportsmen, luo proxessiomu
element being particularly strong. Tho attend
ance of local residents was, as is usually tho caso
at Wyndbam, very small, and very fow ladies
were present. Tbe course was in good order, and
though two or three mishaps occurred, nothing
eorious has to bo reported. In several events the
fieltiB were small, only two starters coming out
for tbe Selling Race and threo for the Steeple
chase. Proceedings commenced with the durdle
Race, for which Yarreo was mado favorite
Bowover, it was Pcmbcrly's day out, as
ho took the lead at tbo fall of the
flag, and was never caught, the rider of Yarreo
making his effort altogether too lata Nine horses
faced the starter for the Spring Handicap, tho
chief event of the day, Flying Jib and Ironmaster
; being most fancied by backers. However, Maid
! of the Mist, about whom from S to 10 to 1 could
easily huvo been obtained, won in good style.
Coorecna got away badly, and Boisterous ran off
tho course. Yellow Hammer, though bo had
Cracknell up, did not display racing speed. Two
of tbe four named ou the card for tbe Selling
Race were scratched, the result being a match
1 between Sceptic and Prattle. It, however,
- proved interesting, Crack noil on Prattlo making
! a good though unsuccessful effort to win on tho
I post. The winner was bought in for £25, all of
| which goes to the club. Only three jockeys
don nod silk for tbe Steeplechase, which was re
garded as a moral for Squito. .Such proved
to be the case, as both bis opponents, Gold
Top and Peter, came to grief during tho
first round, in which Squiro himself nearly
made the mistake of missing a jump. However,
his rider saw bis error in time, and succeeded in
rotting round without any mishap. Peter gave
Huht rather a heavy fall, but fortunatoly no
boneswero broken For tbo last race, tbe Flying
Handicap, Mistake was most backed, Maid of
the Mist and Queen Mary also having supporters.
Mistake, however, gavo bis backers a turn by
winning in good style, Tho King's Son being
second, and King Charles third. Queen Mary
got off badly, and bad not gone far whon she fell, :
injuring Cracknell's foot. The special train
started for town with greater regard to punctual
ity than on provioas occasions, tho visitors
reaching town about hnlfpast six. Appended
are tha details of tho racos, for which no official
timo was taken
