GEELONG.
After having Sent out many thousands
of yearling 'rainbow arid brown trout for
distribution' in various .streams of Victoria,
tlie Geelo'ng Fish Acclimatising Society
lias 10,000 yearljng brown trout on hand.
Leonard Nugorckn, 10 years, was ar
rested by First Class Constable Carney on
a charge of having stolen brass parts of
mill machinery, valued at £30, and was
sentenced to six 'months' imprisonment at
tlie Geelorig. city court on Friday. The
brass, consisting mainly of bearings, was
disconnected from machines in wool-scour
ing works on the Bnnvon River, Mar-
nockville, and thereby destroyed those por
tions of the plant that had been attacked,
riugoreka admitted prior convictions for
offences iu other parts of the State.
After an absence of 41 years, Elfred
Wells Kearney, who lias gained promin
ence as an engineer and as tlie inventor
of a single line railway oar, revisited Gee-
long on Friday. He was born at Latrobe-
terrace, Newtown. His' father (Rev.
A. W. Kearney) was foririeriy on the
teaching stnff of the Geelong Church of
Englhnd Grammar School, and waB con
ducting his own commercial college at
Newtown at the time of tlie young en
gineer's birth. _ Mr. Elfred W. Kearney
left Geelong with his parents when he
was nine years of age.
During the month of June 11,933 bales
of wool were sold- in Geelong at an aver
age of £11 6/0.01, or lOd. per lb., mak
ing the total for tlie season 185,575 bales
sold for £2,523.211, at an average of £14
1/0 a bale, and Il,78d. per lb.
A grant of £1517 lias been promised
by tlie Government towards the work to
be done on tlie Enstern Beach, making
a total of £3944 granted by the State.
