FATAL SHOOTING CASE.

Following d struggle with . another, man
in a cafe a dealer named George Midolo,
31. years, was admitted to Melbourne Hos
pital on Saturday ; night with a bullet
wound in the chest. He died at 7 p.m.
yesterday.
From inquiries made by Detectives Com
mons and. Grieve into the events immedi
ately preceding the shooting, it appeal's
that Midolo, accompanied by a voman,
went to James's Residential Cafe, 570
Bourke-Rtreet, city, on Saturday about 8
p.m. They had only been there a short
time when the woman's husband arrived
on the scene, and a violent quarrel ensued
between the two men. ' Hot words led to
blows, and while they were fighting on
the floor a revolver went off, the bullet
striking Midolo. After the shot had been
fired the dealer quietyl put on his hat,
walked out of the room and down the
Stairs before he collapsed. The matter was
then . reported to Hie police.
investigations made by the detectives
that night show that Midolo, who was a
married man with a wife and family in
Jaracs-strect, Abbotsford, had formed an
attachment with another married woman
some months ago. Her husband was away
at the front, and when he returned in
June last he became aware of Midolo's
actions. After a series of quarrels the
soJdier followed his wife on Saturday night
and saw her meet Midolo. Afterwards he
confronted thein, and following the fight
wrt.li Midolo ho went to his' home in Men-
tone. Early yesterday morning the de-
tectn es visited his house. At first he si id
he had thrown tlie revolver out of the car
nage window, but later the detectives
lound a revolver under his pillow. Jn the
magazine wins a cartridge which had not
been discharged. Tlie soldier subsequently
made a statement that the revolver went
off during the struggle with Midolo; but
he could not accoutn for its doing ?o. The
