A public meeting was held in the court
house on Wednesday evening, convened
by Mr. Geo. Ranson, for the purpose of

was voted to the chair..
The Chairman, in his opening remarks,'
stated that trustees had -to be appointed,
and he was very sorry to see such a small
attendance to deal wicn so iraporeuiu a
matter. A lot of talk had arisen over the
matter, and he thought it was the duty of
every townsman, to attend to take some
steps in the matter.
Mr. H. Horrocks, J.P., stated that as
a trustee he was very sorry to see things
in the state in which they were, but he
had asked several townspeople times out

elect trustees for the vacancies and do
something as to raising the funds neces-
sarv to carrv out the works required.
Mr. H, Walker, secretary, gave a very
clear explanation to those present. He
stated that the trustees were building
one side of fence, and after that had been
completed there would be a balance of £8.
To complete the whole work it would be
accessary to raise £40. A lot of money
had been spent in building iron fences
and filling in a water race that was wash
ing into the graveyard and other minor
items, and he was always ready at any
time to attend a meeting to explain the
finances of the cemetery.
Mr. J. S. Martell, as correspondent to
the " Ovens and Murray Advertiser,"
admitted having described the dilapidated
state of the cemetery, and said he thought
his statements Were correct some weeks
back. He was pleased to see a public
meeting held to have this important mat
ter attended to.
