RAILWAY EMPLOYMENT..
THE SELECTION BOARD.
For some time the applicants for the
1100 vacancies recently thrown open, in
different branches of the railway service
have been somewhat anxiously awaiting
the appointment of the board of selectors
by the Commissioner. The gentlemen
nominated to carry out the important
task are Messrs. R. A. M'liwraith, clerk
in the Commissioner's office ; J. M'Na-
inara, superintending inspector of per
manent way ; and C. J. Harris, chief
clerk of the locomotive branch. 1'he
board of examiners has also been ap
pointed, consisting of Messrs. E. VV
Uea, chief clerk of existing lines ; C.
MacCaw, staff officer in the traffic branch ;
and J. Walsh, of the traffic branch.
A start with thbwork of selection will
be ihade on Thursday at Traralgon. The
number of candidates there is 235, the
placebeing the centre for examination
for the district from Bairnsdale, via Sale,
and Stratford, via Maffra, and also along
the Briagolong line. The board will then
leave for Warragul, and will examine 151
candidates there on Thursday. These
will include, besides local people, those
from Drouin district from Morwell to
Warragul, aud from the Mirboo, Thorp-
dale and Neerim lines. On Friday the
board will deal with 182 applicants from
the districts between Lyndhurst and
Korumburra, Leongatha and Korum-
burra, Port Albert and Leongatha, and
along the Outtrim line. Tnis examina
tion wdl be conducted at Korumburra.
The results of the examinations, so far
as they have gone, will be made known
as soon as tlie labors of the board hate
terminated at each place.
