COMPENSATION FOR LOSSES.
The commission appointed by the Mar
quis of Lansdowne, Secretary of State for
Foreign Affairs, to investigate the claims
for compensation made by foreigners who
were deported irom south Africa by the
British authorities, has received claims
from a number of Germans who had be
come burghers of the Transvaal Republic,

They allege that although they became
naturalised subjects of the Transvaal Re
public, but refused to fight for the Boer
Government, they remained German sub
jects, and are therefore entitled to German
protection and to compensation for expul
sion from South Africa.
