SOVIET METHODS.
treatment of german
engineers.
BERLIN, 25th March:
Goldstein, the General Electric Conir
puny's engineer, who was recently ar
rested at Donbelz with live other German
engineers on a charge of being implicated
in a plot against the Soviet, and who
was released 011 the ground that ho bail
only been in Russia three weeks, nnd
could not have participated in tlio plot,
lias arrived in Berlin. Ho stated thnt
Russian officials had lately been harassing
Gorman'' engineers, and suggesting' sabo
tage ih connection with new machinery
from Germany. He and his colleagues had
protested, but naturally they wore not
able to establish whether the material
had been tampered with before 'delivery
or in transit. He was convinced that
there was 110 justification for tho charges.
Goldstein nddcil that his own cxperien-
.ccs of Russian secret police nnd the
prison at Rosrov were the most un
pleasant. The cell was dirty and 'infested
with vermin, while the food was in-'
sufficient. Tlio six engineers wore con
fined in a cell 12 feet by 5 feet.. 'Ho
believes that the arrests were caused by
a letter from a German meehnnic coiu-
plniniug of the inefficiency of Russian
technicians.
