LATE MR. SNOWBALL.
Impressive Funeral Service.
Impressive scenes were witnessed nt the
Stntc funeral accorded the late Speaker of
the Legislative Assembly, Air. O. R. Snow
ball, AI.L.A,, which took place nt the
Brighton cemetery yesterday. The streets
through which the cortege passed were
lined with people, nnd long before the
funeral reached the cemetery an immense
crowd linil assembled at tho burial ground.
At St. CiitbbciT's Presbyterian Church, in
Wilson-street, prior to the burial, a service
was conducted by Rev. Iv. Forster, as
sisted by Rev. G. II. Balfour.
The State Parliament was strongly repre
sented, twenty cars being engaged. Among
the members present were: — The Premier
(Ah-. Ilogan), Air. Bnilcy (Minister of
Lands), Air. Prcndergast (Chief Secretary),
Air. Edgar, AI.L.C. (Chairman of Commit
tees), Air. Disney, AI.L.C. (Honorary Alin-
istor),Sir Wm. McPhcrsou (lender of the
Opposition), Air, H. J. Cohen (unofficial
lender of the Opposition in the Legislative
Council), Sir Frank Clarke (President
Legislative Council) and Air. Solly (Chair
man of Committees in the Legislative As
sembly). The Governor was represented
by Alnjnr Drake Brockman, and the Fede
ral Ahnistvy by Air. Latham (Attorney-
General) and Air. Guilctt, AI.P. The
mayors and councillors of the southern
municipalities were nlso well represented.
Tiie entrance to tho cemetery was lined
on both sides by returned soldiers, anil
a large gathering of members of the Orange
lodges. A special carriage loaded with
wrenths, including one from Lady Somcrs
and the State Government, followed the
hearse, the top of which wob nlso covered
with floral tributes.
The cofiin was borne to the grave by
four returned soldiers, and the pall bonrers
were:— Tho Premier (Air. Hognn), the
lenders of the Opposition (Sir Wm.
Alet'lierson), the President of the Legisla
tive Council (Sir Frank Clarke), the mayor
of Brighton (Or. Abbott), the town clerk
of Brighton (Mr. J. II. Taylor), represent
ing the Brighton Technical School; Air. J.
G. Baker (grand secretary Loyal Ornnga
institution). Air. E. S. Finlnyson (W.AI.
Brighton Alasouie Lodge), and Air. H. F.
Eoddn (representing the firm of AleBsrs,
Snowball nnd Kauffmnn).
The graveside service was conducted
by Rev. IC. Forster, who wns assisted by
Revo. G. Balfour. H. G. Jones and J.
Alexander. The Alnsonic service was read
by Rev. F. J. Jennings, and thnt of the
Loyal Orange Institution by Rev. A.
