The Crew Fairly Even.
This altcrnoon the heats of tho Head t-f
the River race will ho rowed over the
Henley course, between crows represent
ing tho six public schools of flic Stale.
The contest each year increases in popu
larity, and uo event in the sporting calen
dar of the schools or tho University stirs
up such general interest its the cigtit-
oarcd l'ucc. (liven reasonably line weather
to-day it is safe to say that nil previous
records for attendance will bo broken, as
the crews seem a fairly even lot, and tlie
supporters oi each school have reason to
believe that their representatives have
good prospects of gaining tiie coveted
honors. On this occasion the committea
of tiie Associated Public Schools lias de
cided that the opportunity of assisting
charities should be availed of, conse
quently a portion of the south bank lias
been set aside as a reserve. It will be

gramnio at the entrance to gain admission
to this reserve. The programmes are being
sold at the small cost of 1/ each, and a
separate programme will liavo to bo pur-

chased to-morrow to gain admission to
sec the final. To-morrow's programme will
be distinct from that which will be' issued
for tlio heats to-day. As only tho official
programme will admit to the reserve the
public is warned to purchase only the
official programme. The proceeds from
tho sale of programmes, after deducting
cost of printing and the expense of en-
closing uie reserve, win do nuuaea to tno
Lord Alayor's Hospital Fund. There will
be entrances to tlie rescrvo from Alexan
dra-avenue, at tho west end near the
river bank at the engineers' depot,' and
at the east end near Brander'sferry;
