TROTTER'S ALLEGED DEATH
Three Men on Trial.
SYDNEY, AVcdnemlny. — After a U-iiil nt
tlie Central Police Court extending over
two days, Mr. Luidiatv, S.M., decided to
commit' to tho Quarter Sessions for trial
Frederick Smith, 33 yeurii; August John
Gousch. 33 years; Oenrge Jonhinuou, 61
yenre, and William Clancy, 31 years'. They
lvero charged tvith having conspired to
elieat and defraud the \ orksliire lnsui-
anec Company Ltd. of £100, and to cheat

the Victorian Trotting nnd fencing As-
socintion of sums of money.
Evidence for the prosecution vvas tliat

Yorkshire Insurance Company Ltd, that
Inn trotting horse Valua Lud had died a
natural death, uftd a policy of the value
ot £100 had been paid, on the death. It
was alleged that the horse had not died,
but had been "rung in," nnd had raced
successfully nt Junce and in Victoria in
the name of Cromwell.
