GEELONG MOTOR SMASH.
A Constable Killed.
Driver Committed for Trial.
GEELONG, Friday.— Tho inquest con
cerning the death of Constable J. Barker,
who was killed on the Queenscliff-rond,
East Geclong, on the night of 21st Novem-
ber, was concluded last night. It was
the longest inquiry that had been held by
tho coroner (Mr. 1). AV. O'Crady) in
Geclong.
Tho unfortunate constable, who resided
at Leopold, was riding homeward on a
moior cycle when a motor ear collided
with him. Ilis skull was fractured and
death was instantaneous.
The coroner considered there was a
prima facie case of negligent driving on
the part of Ernest Leach, the driver of
the motor ear, and ho committed him for
trial at Gcelong on 23rd February on a
charge of manslaughter. Bail was allowed
in a surety of £100,
