Tullius Defeats Epilogue.
A well-matched field contested the
Jlcndigo Handic-up, of one mile. Weight
of money caused Abdern to occupy top
position in tlie .betting, but there was
solid support l'or Epilogue . and Tulliiis,
with Kerens the host hacked of the
others. It wus expected that Epilogue
would ha the early lender, and there
wan some surprise when 'Tullius ran past
mm immediately the harrier lifted. Mar-
sias got .away badly, _ but went fast
enough to run into third place, and in
that order the leaders negotiated the
back stretch. Abdern and Kerens wore
within reasonable distance, but the race
was obviously between 'Tullius and Epi
logue. with Tallies going tlie better of
the pair. A. Wilson, on Epilogue, found
it necessary to ride his mount four fur
longs from home. This brought Epi
logue to within half a length of his rival,

accident caused him to lese several
lengths. M.vownlmy took the lead when
Pntro fell back, and though Patro.
ridden hard, gained on him, was still in
tlie lead at. tlie last obstacle. A struggle
between these two seemed imminent, lint
