The.- opinion wiis expressed by members
of. the Benevolent Home' committee at
Monday night's meeting that something
should he done lo provide accommodation
for aged and . poor- persons who apply for
temporary lodaina. The Charities Commis-
sion has expressed the view that such pel-
sons should lie provided for at benevolent
homos instead ot being sent to gaol. The
committee! decided to ask the commission
to build a easunl ward. for the. accommoda
tion of such ensos. '
A complaint that building operations aro
being held- up by delay m -the -work of
sewerage connection was. made to Ballarat
Sowcrugo Authority by Messrs. : A. E.
Elliott and A. E. Nicholson, representing
the Master Builders'. Association. The
chairman of tlie authority, Mr. F. Brawn,
said the delay was the fau)t of the public;
inaiiy' of whom were not carrying into
effect plans prepared for them by the
authority's officers. ' There were now 130
plans in the office awaiting action by prof
pcrty owners, and , the authority would
take steps to compel them to go on with
the work. ...

garet Ho'arc Ward, in recognition of many
valuable services rendered by the presi
dent of the institution and his wife. They
gave timber worth £400 for the building
of the new. Ward.
Edivard Warburton was fined £1 re
cently for trespnssing on the Ballarat rail;
way. goods sheds yards. As the fine has
not been paid the police on Tuesday ap
plied to the city court for .a' warrant of
commitment. The court .made an order
thut accused bo imprisoned for three
days.
An increase of _2d. per gallon was made
on last year's price for supplying milk to
Bnllnrat Benevolent Home by this year's
successful tenderer. He charged 1/ a gal
lon for tlie preceding twelve months, but
hiid to raise his price because of the neces
sity for hand feeding his cows. -
