of visitors, somo 300 or 400 people of both soxes
boing on tlio mound. It took place in a paddock
belonging to Mr. Hnttie, about three miles to the
northward of the town of Broadmcndows. The
soil was a light sandy loam, and though somewhat
boggy in places, was in admirable condition geue-
rally, and showed off the work to advantngo.
Tho ploughing was, upon tho wholo, of Tory ox.
collont quality, with the' exception of that done
by tho boys, wbicb was not very good. There
were thirty-four ploughs on the ground. Thrco
entered for the champion prize, and made
most oxcollent work, TJm judges awarded the
first prize to D. Harris, Glenroy, though some
wero of opinion that it should have gone to
Thos. Oliver, whose wort was first-class in every
