CRICKET.
Mr. J. Bennett has received a letter from Lillywhite,
dated 10th May, in which he confirms the
information forwarded by the last mail as to the
professional team of cricketers to visit the
colonies next season under his guidance. Lillywhite
again gives the names of the eight already
engaged, viz:—Charlwood, Greenwood, Jupp,
Pooley, Emmett, Ulyett, Southerton, and
adds, "There has been a party trying to engage
our men to come out (Pickersgill and Co., I
think; but am not sure), but all refuse and stick
to us like bricks and mortar. Shall engage remainder
shortly, when I see their form, and
when engaged will immediately let you know who
they are. They will be batsmen. A. Shaw is
almost certain to come."
