AN EXTRAORDINARY DECISION.
COLAC, August 20.
In the police court to-day, before Mr.
Heron, P.M.,. tbe case against . Mr. Turner,
chemist, for negligence in connection with the
making up wrongly of a prescription, ft mistake
which resulted in the death of an infant, was
resumed. Tho case bad been adjourned to
enable defendant to call as witnesses clicmist3
from town, to prove the practice of the profes
sion, but be abandoned the idea, and threw
himself on the mercy of tho court. Ho was
fined 10s. ;
Dr. Dobie's case was then heard. The
charge against him was not being registered in
the colony as a medical practitioner. Ho was
fined 50s., and ,21s. costs. Considerable sur
prise was manifested at the great discrepancy
between the . two verdicts. Through Turner's
negligence life was lost. Dr. Dobie i3 a new
arrival from Scotland, and a fully qualified
practitioner. Ko blame can be attributed to
him, and a nominal fino would have met tho
case.
