FVJ. B0FFARD DIES SUDDENLY
PREMONITION OF DEATH
Mons. E. Napoleon Boffard, one of the
most prominent people in Melbourne musi
cal drclOs, died in painfully sudden
circumstances at Flinders-street station on
Thursday. At about 3.50 p.m.' M. Boilai-d,
who has been . in the habit of snendine
the week end at Black Rock, was await
ing the arrival of the train on No. 3 plat
form to carry "him to Oils destination. He
had been strolling along the platform, and
suddenly was noticed to falter. Before any
one had time to give any assistance, lie
collapsed and fell. People at once rushed
to his aid, and it was seen he was in a
serious condition. A St. John ambulance
was pToiured to convey him to the Mel
bourne Hospital. Dcrth, however, took
place before the institution was reached.
For some time deceased had buffered
from heart trouble, nnd that he was feel
ing acutely the trying wcaffner conditions
was evidenced by a note left for Mr. Faulk
ner Smith, by whom he had been em
ployed, in the capacity of manager of the
Playhouse 'Da en lie. The note read: — "I
feel 'worse tc-day than 1 have done before.
P.8. — Perhaps tlu's is the end." M. Bof
fard. who attained his 58th Irirthday on
Monduy last, was a native of Paris. He
had inherited the title of barcn (France)
from his brother, who died recently'. That
brother was o. general in tlio Franco-Prus-
fian war. Deceased studied ringing under
Gounod in Paris, and was a boy sopruno
in Notre Dame Cathedral. Paris. He ur,
rived, in Melbourne 25 years ago, making
his first appearance at Turner's promenade
concerts at the Exhibition Buildings.
