REPORTS FROM SALE.
A Strenuous Test Proved.
BALE.— The second reliability trial from
Melbourne to Sale, a distance via Maffra
of 150 miles, was (bold on Friday, as a -pre
liminary to Australia's greatest motor cycle
carnival. As a trial it was a mammoth
saccc93, as a large proportion of the riders
eame through without loss of a. single
point. Those points are deducted for being
early or late at controls and for all road
steppage. There were eleven controls on
the route, and riders had to check in to
the minute at each control. This trial is
not a speed tcBt, hut is conducted merely
to test the reliability of tiio machines and
the endurance and capabilities of the
rulers. It vs not a payable proposition
tor the V.M.C.C., who conduct the trial,
as each, rider who finishes without loss of
points wins a trophy valued at £2 2/, and
this year the event will involve the club
m an amount approximating £00, as
against £25 last year.' The results are
beyond expectation, and the reliability of
the modern cycle has been amply demon
strated, as 29 came through without less of
points. The club endeavors, to make each
succeeding trial more exacting, and has
,nf been 'able 1 to frame conditions
which prove more than the modern ma-
om no and rider can accomplish. Of tbe 29
competitors who came through without loss
of points 9 were Indiana, 11 Harlcys, 2 Ex
celsiors, 2 Hendersons, 1 Douglas, 1 Moii-
arcli, 2 Nortons, 1 B.8.A. There were IS
and 11 had loss of points,
vvilding and Brook reported, stoppages on
the road, and the committee are investigat
ing their cases. Results:—
