AN IRISH REPRISAL
Shooting Incident at Mallow,
BRITISH RAILWAY STRIKE
THREATENED.
LONDON. 9Ui .February.
A strike of members of the Associated
Society of Locomotive Engineers and Fire
man dg threatened as a result of the shoot
ing of certain railway men at Mallow
(County Cork). The executive baa
sent the Government a peremptory de
mand for an inquiry, otherwise the
men.witl strike on Tncsday. It is al
leged that somo members of the society
wore killed and wounded. The secretary,
Mr. Bromley, soys the situation is very
"grave. The society is determined to see
justice done. "Sotng of our members," he
states, "wcro ,lhavir< food in their mess-

had nothing to do with the affair. Wo are

are going on with it."
Somo doubt exists as to the next move

state that they are keeping their plans
secret, but it is understood notices were

orders may have been countermanded.
The Irish railway mens' version of the
Mallow affair declares thai Black and Tans
rounded up the station staff, marched then,
into the rood, told them tx> run lor their
lives, and then fired ua they ran, killing
tvfo. Sixteen others escaped on a loco
motive.
Recently Captain King, country inspec
tor of constabulary, was wounded and bis
wife. was shot dead at Mallow railway stiv
tion, where they were waiting for tho mail
from Cork. Their assailants also firod on
the police who arrived at the station half

JEWEL ROBBERY IN DUBUN.
Armed men held the approadheu to Wel
lington Quay, Dublin, to-day, while eight
muii looted a jeweller's shop of £3000
worth of goodq. .
KIDNAPPED RATE COLLECTOR.
Josqph Jordan, rate collector at Ballag-
haderrocn (couaty Mayo), who was kid
napped three months ago, claimed £10,000
compensation, and was awarded £3210 ou
the ground ofpersonal injuries and damage
to furniture. His captors forced him to frign
cheques for £700 and £1800, and these
cheques were cashed.
TWO MEN TAKEN FROM BEDS

Armed men at Drogheda (on the Boyne)
took Alexander Halpin and John Morgan
from their beds and shot them outside tltcir

held. It is stated that both men were

Four Sinn Femora were sentenced today
for the wounding of a policeman at Both-
well. .(Scotland) in October last. M'Ginn
was sentenced to ten yeara" penal servi
