BOLT AT SOUTH MELBOURNE.
\ sensational, vehicle accident occurred In Cia-
rcn'don-street, South Melbourne, on Sa.urday after
noon shortly after i o'clock. A horse attached
to a buggy, In which were seated an elderly lady
and gentleman, was startled by a dog, and bolted
along Clarendon-street. At the interjection of
tha- thorougltfare ana uovcniry-strcet uie none
galloped on to tho footpath in front of Messrs.
Craavford's drapery establishment. The footpath
was crowded with pedestrians at the time— pun
ctually ladies out shopping— and they spattered
in all directions, several narrowly escaping being
knocked down. The buggy waa dashed with great
force against one of the iron verandah posts, and ;
overturned. Fortunately tlie occupants ot the ,
vehicle although shaken and bruised by tho fall,
were not otherwise hurt. The buggy, however, I
was smashed up. and had to be removed In a i
furniture van. The horse, which continued Its j
bol' after freeing Itself from the buggy, was
shortly afterwards captured uninjured in Coven
try-street. ' ;
