CLYDE WORKS.
Contradictory Reports.
SYDNEY, Tuesday.— It was reported
to-day that the employes at the Ciycie
Engineering Works, who have been dis
missed because of their refusal to work
43 houra, had! made a move to settle the
trouble. It was stated that the men had
appointed delegates to interview the man
agement, with a view to arranging terms
for a resumption of work.
Commenting on the report, the secretary
of the .Amalgamated Engineering Union
(Mr. Madden) said that no attempt had
been made by members of his organisa
tion to settle the trouble as far as it
affected the Clyde works. Members were
still standing solid. They agreed at mass
meetings to follow out the instructions
of . the disputes committee, upon which
the union was represented, and they were
still carrying out those instructions.
The secretary of the Trolley and Dray
men's Union to-day stated that all the
drivers of the Yellow Cab Co., to the
number of 400, had joined the union, and
were working 44 hours for £4 11/ a
week.
The secretary of the Metal Trades
Association (Mr. R. C. Myhill) to-day
said that Cockatoo dock yard was just
about tnanng.ng to carry on, but things
could not continue as they wore, as the
men who were registered under Federal
awards refused to observe them. Sueli

indefinitely.
