Collingwood were at home to Hawthorn, and a
veiy poor exhibition of football was provided,
too much scrambling play taking place. Best
players: — Collingwood: Brown, Stevens, Todd,
Boyle. Hawthorn: Loguu (best on ground),
Baieman, Boothman, Drake and Larkiu.
Richmond and Essendon met at Richmond,
pluy being even until half way through Um
second quarter, when the Essendon backs 6truyca

Carlton and Geelong met at Carlton, the gumt
being solid and fast right from the outset.
Both teams had several big men, including senior
reserves, but although the bumps were many,
nothing spiteful ever entered into the game.
The game on the wholo was fairly balanced, al
though the visitors led by over 4 goals just pre
vious to three-quarter time. Carlton seemed
then to spring Into action, and at tbe three-
quarter interval CO points all was the score.
Early in the last quarter they scored 1,8, but,
tiiougb the ball passed from cud to end con
tinuously, Gcelong could only mako up one goal
of the leeway. Carlton deserved the victory.
From a very evenly balanced side it is hard
to select Carlton's best, but Outram, Huir, Ca-
hill, Way, Davis, Hart, Qilby'and Connell were
outstanding. For Geelong the best were Mills,
Little, Murrelis Craven, Balfour and Lover.

Tho South Melbournc-SL Kilda match, played
at St. Kilda, was remarkable for tbe great Dum
ber of minor points scored. Kicking with the
wind, South put on 2.9 in the first term, but
were behind by 8 points at the chango over. St,
Kilda were 12 points to the good at the Inter
val. Witli the use of tho wind again so tin.

their kicking,' for out of fifteen shots only 4
goals were scored. South had a lead of 22
points at three-quarter time, a lead which they
increased in tlie lost quarter, tlie bell ringing
with South winners of a good, hard game by 28
points.
North Melbourne beat Melbourne at North
Melbourne in a game which was very
fast, open and interesting. In the
first quarter both sides displayed good
football, each having four scoring wots.
Melbourne led at tlie bell 3.1, North 2.2.
North improved on the previous quarter, ami
gained the lead— 6.3; Melbourne, 4.5. After the
interval Melbourne, with quick football, to
gether with splendid judgment, were rewarded
by securing a good lead of 0.8 to 7.6. In tho
last quarter both teams put on the pace, the
hall travelling from end to end without eithei
side scoring for about 10 minutes. North, with
great determination, scored 2 goals. They kept
up the attack until within 1 point of Melbourne.
After a great battle, Melbourne increased the
lead by 2 points, and with only a few minutes
to go North forced the play, nnd, with sevcrut
players out of position, Woods raced for tho
ball just in time to dribble it through tho

being Woods, McCormack, Smith, Gre
gory, Lynch, Nolan and Lovett. Mel

The Footscray second eighteen were at home
to tho Fitzroj' seconds at the Western oval,
tlie weather being ideal for football. By good
team work the home team at half time took
tho lead, the score being 7.8 to 6.0. In the
third and lost quarters Footscray outplayed their
opponents, and finished ahead by 2 goals.
Footscray were best screed by Butler, W. Con-
stdlne, J. Consldine, Neil, Anthony, Sutherland
and O'Brien. Fitaroy: Woods, Allan, O'Rourke,
Brown, mil, Rces and Curtis. Goal - kickers:—

Kew and South Mclbourno provided a fast,
open and vigorous game. In the latter half
Sdutli Melbourne scored 5.7 to 4.7, winning an
exciting game by 0 points. For the winners.
Hyncs, Lee, Army, Harris, Forbes, Oielnnd nnd
Nicholson were a tower of strength. Kew's best
were Purcell, Rellly, Caddcn, McCnnti, Thewlis,
Scott and Hornden.
The Kingavllle-Sunshine game was close and
interesting up to the final bell, and resulted in
a five-point victory for Sunshine.
The Wiliamstown Shell-Newport game was a
much belter display than the scores indicate.
Best players for williamstown Shell were Porter,
Mitchell, Kruffcr, Splccr, McCanu, Cook und
Warren. For Newport C.O.R., Murphy, O'Brien.
Upton, Wall (2), Sbeehan, Wallace and HcLcod
deserve mention.
Ascot Yale easily defeated Carnegie. Young,
of Carnegie, played one of the best games on
the ground. For the winners Bertram (6 conl6),
Smith (4), Dauglnp (3), Balms, Kew. Wnsley,
Robinson and L. Wasley were the best players.
For Carnegie, Jennings, Forscutt, Brain, Spen
cer, Brasher, McPherson, Pearson and Wor6lcy
played well.
Men who showed out for Yarravillc In their
win against North Melbourne were:— Kennedy- (4
goals). Shields (4), with Rodgcrs, Leonard, Glnn-
field. Knott and Cooksou. For North Mel
bourne Laurels. ' Morton, Donnelly, , Webster,
McCabe, Furlonger, Lee and Bett6 deservo men
tion.
Northcote crushingly defeated Coburg. For
winners Moore, Volk, Ludlow, Judkins, Edsnll,
Lees, Lovelace and Short played well. For Co
burg, Hamilton, Owen (2), liogcrs, Piddington,
Uartigan, Teasdule and Spencer were the best
players,
Preston Reservoir, in their match against
Brighton, showed excellent form, outplaying
their opponents iu all detriments of tlie game.
For Brighton, Donovan, Wcstley, Corney, Uux-
table, Asling, Murphy, Es;wrto und Woods were
outstanding. Preston Reservoir's best wore Tat-
torson, Knight, Ludlow, Staveley, Tolley, Calla-
ghan, Tongue and Ivor.
Williamstown and Prahran provided an evenly
contested game in every quarter. For win
ners, Stock, Bees, Hyde, Malberg, Lester, Pun-
shon, Uauser, Purdy and Hall showed out, Prah
ran's best wore Darnell. Wilkins, Mnllctt, Ilan-
imn, Anderson, Knell and Rowe.
Port. Melbourne and Camborwcll also played in
a well-contested game. For the winners, He-
gurty Davenport, Rosewarne, Kc.vhoc, Owens,
Rowe, Bragg and Pettett Uisplnj'cd good form.
For Camberwel, Allerdlnsr, Bayloss, A' In,
Clark, Judd, Hlggins, Smith and Bride were
always well Jn the play.
Following the protest lodged by Ascot Yale
against Kingsville being Awarded a game, the
investigation committee, of the V.J.F.A. met,
and ordered that the game be replayed.
